🔶 About Hypnosis

Hypnosis is just another word for something we all do every day

Stacks Image 15706

Hypnosis is a natural phenomenon that we all experience many times throughout the day, we just don't call it hypnosis. Day dreaming or getting lost in your own thoughts are two descriptions of light forms of hypnosis. Through hypnotherapy you can harness and capitalise on the way in which the mind already operates and with guidance expedite learning curves to achieve fast life changing results.

Have you ever bought a car or new clothes to find you start seeing the same thing everywhere you go? Have you ever forgotten a persons name and then later in the day, out of nowhere, it pops into your head? These are just a couple of simple examples highlighting the amazing part of your brain that is constantly processing information to support your interests while you are busy doing other things. We have come to know this as the subconscious mind.

Hypnotherapy allows you to access your subconscious mind and relearn and/or replace unwanted habits. By bypassing the filter of the conscious mind, where thoughts and desires can be met with resistance through logic and critical analysis, you are able to stimulate your subconscious mind to support your needs. This approach has more power, influence and longevity than just a conscious thought. Using Hypnosis you can sow the seeds of your desired goals through creative suggestion, from breaking a habit, overcoming a phobia to dropping a few pounds etc… as soon as this happens your subconscious mind will be even more in tune with your needs. It will help you to focus on your goals, find ways to achieve them while, at the same time working more efficiently for you by identifying opportunities or situations that might ordinarily pass you by.

🔶 How does Hypnotherapy work?

Understanding the mechanics of the mind

Stacks Image 6703

As humans grown and learn we generate patterns through repetitive acts of motion or thought. After time these become an automated responses. Most patterns (or habits) are useful because they help us function at a faster rate throughout the day but others can cause us unwanted challenges or issues. We are not born with these patterns, we put them there, either by choice, circumstance or environment.

Hypnotherapy helps to disrupt, reframe or eliminate unwanted patterns by addressing them at the source, in this case the subconscious mind. At the same time it will replace or introduce new positive and supportive patterns without you having to consciously engage in repetition. Smoking is a pattern, driving behaviours come from patterns, how we sleep is based on patterns, if we constantly think in a particular way this too becomes a pattern. Where most people fail in their endeavours to change is when their goal comes from the conscious mind. The problem with this is that the conscious mind can be easily distracted as it can only process a limited amount of data at one time. That is why if you are distracted by a phone call for example you might forget you were cooking and the pan boils over. Your conscious mind holds your short term memory and it will simply switch off leaving you vulnerable. Through Hypnosis combined with therapeutic and psychological techniques seeds are planted in your subconscious allowing them to continue to process information even when your conscious mind is distracted or otherwise occupied.

What might be a small issue to one person can be a monumental obstacle for another. So ask yourself this question, what is the one thing, whether it be seemingly big or small, you would love to change about you?

🔶 What is it like to be Hypnotised

Know before you go!

Being in a hypnotic state is incredibly relaxing but there is a very normal and common misconception of the expectation to feel something unusual or out of the ordinary. The truth is that the only thing you really feel is deep relaxation with a heightened awareness of everything around you.

Due to these false expectations, the anticipation of some kind of mystic trance or out of body experience, prevents true focus. You can’t move forward when you are waiting for “something” to happen. Think of it this way, when you go to bed to enjoy some restful sleep do you think to yourself once you are asleep, “OK, I’m asleep now!”, or does sleep gently happen without conscious awareness?

So what is a hypnotic state? It’s a combination of two very simple steps…
Relaxation and Focus.

What does being hypnotised feel like?

° Physically
your whole body is relaxed.

° Sensory
your senses become more finely tuned with your surroundings and how your body feels.

° Mentally
your mind many happily wander but will quickly become focused on a single thought.

In a nutshell, you feel like you can open your eyes at any time but the experience is so relaxing and comfortable and your mind is absorbed in meaningful focus you simply choose not to.

What can the feeling of hypnosis be compared to?

Try explaining to someone what you experience when you are in a daydream or deep thought and you are getting close.

Have you ever closed your eyes to listen to music or even taste food? Why? Because we instinctively know it enhances the experience. When you want to have a “change of mind” then the same principle applies.

🔶 Myth v’s Fact

Is Hypnosis really what you think it is?

Stacks Image 6486

Let’s cut to the chase, many people are sceptical, cautious and/or dubious about Hypnosis based on the massive misconception that someone else has control over you. Well, let’s clear that one up once and for all. This perception was created by early stage Hypnotists who wanted their audiences to think that they were all powerful and awe inspiring. And there are still those who attempt to do this today!

The truth is the complete opposite. Only the individual can achieve a hypnotic state and only if they choose to. Under hypnosis it is impossible to be made to do something you do not want to do.

So why do people do those crazy things on stage? The answer is that they already know they are in a show environment and already have a preconceived expectation as to what will happen. Once they have achieved a relaxed and focus state they are happy to react to suggestions.

The good news is that Hypnotherapy is much more powerful than stage hypnosis for two main reasons, personal ambition and emotion. Having a sincere desire to make a personal change is a huge and effective motivator that will strongly influence a rapid transformation.

So if a person in a show can happily eat onions like apples and become Elvis with nothing more than a suggestion, imagine what you can achieve if it is something you truly want to accomplish. And remember, when using hypnosis you are the one in control of your mind, not the hypnotist.

What makes a good Hypnotherapist?

Because every individual controls their own ability to reach a hypnotic state it is the hypnotherapists role and responsibility to act as their guide. The difference between an average hypnotherapist and a excellent hypnotherapist is in the way in which they connect and understand the people they work with. Having the ability to interpret situations allowing them to create suggestions in a way that the person they are working with can understand and relate to thus attaining maximum affect. This is why it is important to meet with any hypnotherapist before making a commitment to see if you are comfortable with them and their surroundings.
